Climate: Temperatures vary from an average of 50 to 70 degrees. San Jose boasts an average of more than 300 sunny days per year, and has a mean annual rainfall of 14.4 inches.

Elevation: The highest elevation is 4,372 feet at Copernicus Peak in the Diablo Range; the lowest elevation at sea level.

History: San Jose was named "Pueblo de San Jose de Guadalupe" in the name of Charles the Third of Spain. In 1846, the American flag was first flown over the community. San Jose was the first civilian settlement in California. It was also the first city in California to be incorporated. It was the first state capital before California was officially a state. In 1849, on December 15th, the first state legislature was assembled here in San Jose.
