Public Records Act Requests

The California public Records Act (PRA) is designed to give the public access to information from state and local agencies (Government Code §6250-6276.48). In accordance with this law, the San José City Council has adopted a formal written policy affirming the public’s right to access records and the procedures to be followed when making records available to the public. The City’s Public Records Policy and Protocol affirms the public’s right to access City records and to sets forth the procedures that facilitate the access of public records to the general public. The City’s Public Records Policy further states that each City department shall appoint a Public Records Act Coordinator(s) to handle and facilitate the requests, as well as establish their own procedural policy in conjunction with the City’s Public Records Policy.

The City’s Public Records Policy further mandates that each City department appoint a Public Records Act Coordinator(s) to handle and facilitate the PRA requests, as well as establish their own procedural policy in conjunction with the City’s Public Records Policy.
