The City of San José homeownership programs are an important component of its overall housing strategy.
The following programs are available for potential homebuyers in San José:
- Teacher Homebuyer Program (THP) -
Program for full-time San José public school teachers and credentialed staff.
- SJSU Faculty & Staff Homebuyer Program (FSHP) - Program
for full-time permanent San José State University (SJSU) employees. (Update 10/15/09: The City of San José and San José State University have suspended the down payment assistance program for SJSU staff until further notice. However, the program for SJSU faculty members is unaffected as the City continues to accept new applications from prospective buyers. Please direct any questions to Beth Pugliese, SJSU Program Coordinator, at 408-924-2285.)
- Welcome HOME Program - Downpayment assistance program which
offers a loan up to $25,000 at 3% simple interest for first-time homebuyers.
(Update 10/21/09: The Welcome Home program is closed to new applications as the funds have been exhausted.)
- Building Equity & Growth in Neighborhoods (BEGIN) - Downpayment assistance program with
varying loan amounts in specific developments for low- and moderate-income first-time homebuyers.
