Projects

Since 1988, the Department of Housing has financed the development of approximately 13,500 units of affordable housing. These projects have included new construction of rental housing, acquisition/rehabilitation of rental housing, new construction of townhouses and condominiums for first-time homebuyers, Single-Room Occupancy (SRO) hotels, transitional living developments, homeless shelters, and projects for special needs housing groups (including projects for persons with AIDs/HIV, developmentally disabled adults, mentally disabled adults, and seniors).

A complete list of affordable housing developments in San José, which the City has helped to finance, can be found in the book of Affordable Housing Developments. Many of these developments are included in the City's Smart Growth Plan. In addition, the following maps give an overview of the affordable housing developments by City Council District, by State Assembly District, and by State Senate District.
